Delhi Metro is open today. Trains are running. What is shut, until 6 pm, is entry and exit at 45 stations.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation closed those gates at 9 pm on Friday, 9 October 2026. The closure runs until 6 pm on Saturday, 10 October. DMRC has called it a security closure. Security agencies are still reviewing it, so the clock can change. If you are already inside the system, you can change lines at these stations. New Delhi metro station is the one exception. Interchange is closed there too.
Is Delhi Metro working today?
Yes. The Metro is not shut across the city. Services are running on the lines. You can travel, as long as your station is not one of the 45 where the gates are closed.

The first list had 57 stations. It was cut to 45. If your station is not named above, this advisory does not close it.
Why are Delhi Metro stations closed today?
The gates are closed for security around a protest at Jantar Mantar. The Cockroach Janta Party has called the protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Police have treated the protest as unauthorised. The closed stations sit across central and north Delhi, around that area. Roads near Jantar Mantar are also being diverted.
When will Delhi Metro stations reopen?
The DMRC notice says 6 pm on 10 October 2026. That is the time printed on the advisory. DMRC has also said security agencies will review the situation, so treat 6 pm as the current plan, not a promise.
Is Rajiv Chowk metro station open today?
No. You cannot enter or exit Rajiv Chowk until 6 pm. The station is on the 45-station list. Changing between the Blue Line and the Yellow Line at Rajiv Chowk is still allowed. Only the gates are shut.
Is Chandni Chowk metro station open today?
Chandni Chowk is not on the closure list, so its gates are not part of this shutdown. The stations around it are. Chawri Bazar, Jama Masjid and Kashmere Gate are closed for entry and exit. If you are going to Chandni Chowk, board the Metro at a station that is still open.
Which metro is nearest to New Delhi railway station?
New Delhi metro station, next to New Delhi railway station, is closed. Entry, exit and interchange are all unavailable there. The Yellow Line and the Airport Express meet at this station, so this is the hardest point in the network today. The court order on Friday also covered trains coming into Delhi. Check the railway’s own update before you leave for New Delhi or Hazrat Nizamuddin.
Which metro is nearest to Old Delhi railway station?
Chandni Chowk on the Yellow Line is the usual stop for Old Delhi, and it is not on the closure list. Kashmere Gate, which is the big interchange nearby, is closed for entry and exit. Use Chandni Chowk if you are coming from a station that is still open.
Is Delhi Cantt metro station open today?
Delhi Cantt is not on the DMRC list of 45. This advisory does not close its entry or exit.
Is the Delhi Metro Yellow Line running today?
Yes. The Yellow Line is running. It runs from Samaypur Badli to Millennium City Centre in Gurugram, and it meets the Airport Express at New Delhi. You cannot get on or off at several central Yellow Line stations today: Kashmere Gate, Chandni Chowk is open, but Chawri Bazar, New Delhi, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat and Lok Kalyan Marg are closed. The train will pass through. The gates will not open.
What did the Supreme Court say about the Delhi Metro shutdown?
On Friday, 9 October, the Supreme Court heard lawyers who objected to the closure of 57 stations and the cancellation of trains into Delhi. The bench was Chief Justice Surya Kant with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana. The judges said the notices went too far. They told the Centre there must not be a complete ban on Metro and train movement into Delhi. Regulation is allowed. A full stop is not. The Tribune reported the bench as saying that one should not use a hammer to kill a fly. The Centre said it would look at a place other than Jantar Mantar for a peaceful protest. The court asked for a compliance report within four days.
Has a contempt petition been filed?
Yes. Advocate Shailendra Mani Tripathi has filed a contempt petition in the Supreme Court. He says the Metro stations stayed closed after Friday’s order against a complete shutdown. The petition names Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar and DMRC chairperson D. Thara. It also says trains were still being cancelled and that the revised plan was not publicised properly. It asks these officials to explain why contempt action should not follow. There is no report yet that the court has heard this petition.
What is the Delhi Metro helpline number?
The DMRC helpline is 155370. You pay for the call. That number is on the official DMRC contact page. For a closure update, the DMRC website and @OfficialDMRC are faster than the phone line, because this notice is still under review.
If your station is Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Janpath, Central Secretariat, Mandi House or ITO, do not count on those gates before 6 pm. Pick a station that is missing from the list. Leave extra time for road diversions around Jantar Mantar.
